Haniye and I were colleagues for years at LegalSoft, the US legal-software company I worked with from 2018 to January 2025. She is a wonderful person, and I enjoyed working with her a lot. When I found out she was opening a studio, I jumped in and offered to build the platform with her. A studio needs much more than a website: packages and drop-ins, cancellations, a fair waitlist, waivers, instructor pay, and a way in for members without someone standing at the front desk.

A member signs in with a code sent to their email, so there is no password to forget. They buy a package or a single class, book a spot, and can cancel within the studio's window for a refund. If a class is full, they join the waitlist, and when a seat opens, the next person in line is offered it. On the day, they hold the QR pass on their phone up to the scanner at the door, and it unlocks. Instructors see their next two weeks of classes, who is coming, and what they have earned this month. Haniye runs everything else from one admin: the schedule, prices, gift cards, promotions, waivers, emails and reports.

Haniye and I came up with the QR door together, and I built the whole platform in about three days: the website, bookings and payments, the admin and the door. At the entrance, a laptop checks each pass against its own copy of the member list, so members still get in on a night the internet goes down.

The website is live at daroon.house and already collecting sign-ups. The studio opened in October 2026. For me, it was a fun project with a friend.
